Final Moments

Final Moments

They were surrounded, him and his family
There was only one way out, one chance to survive
There was one thought in his head, to save those around him
With the grenade in his hand, and the thought in his head
He ran, as fast as he could, racing time
As thoughts passed through his head, he remembered good times
Times of sorrow, times of pain, times of joy
But most of all he remembered
The time he fell in love
He fell in love with his wife, his kids, his life
Still running he pulled the pin, to the grenade in his hand
He yelled “I Love You”
Then one last thought crossed his mind
As he dived to cover the last bit of ground
He remembered who he was saving
He smiled as he was immersed in light
The last light he would ever see
